BRIEF HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

The Institute of Arts and Sciences was formerly the department serving all the other departments under the chairmanship of Dr. Rufino E. Loque. By virtue of Board Resolution approved in 1981, all the departments were converted into Institutes. The incumbent chairman became the first Dean of the Institute.

The original degree offering were Bachelor of Arts in Economics with an enrolment of five (5) students. In 1982, additional degree programs were added: Bachelor of Science in Psychology and AB Political Science. These were intended to be Pre-Med and Pre-Law courses, respectively.

After Dr. Loque, Prof. Elpidia A. Duque, Dr. Corazon V. Domingo, Dr. Martina C. Vergara, Prof. Plecita J. Toledo and Dr. Gloria Y. Ponciano took over. At present, Dr. Corazon V. Domingo assumed as the Officer-in-Charge of the Institute.

In 1994, AB Entrepreneurship was approved and then was revitalized. In 1995, an additional AB Course major in Cooperatives was approved and offered.

Faculty members of the IAS also teach in the other Institutes of the College, particularly in Languages, Social Sciences, Psychology, Business Mathematics, General Economics, Entrepreneurship, Sciences, Arts and Music, Physical Education, and Natural Sciences.

The IAS provides the general education requirements to all the degree programs offered by the Tarlac College of Agriculture.
